Lord Is It Mine

Aaron was a seasoned trader renowned for his impeccable instincts and his knack for spotting opportunities in the volatile world of stocks. Amidst the hustle and bustle of New York City's financial hub, he navigated through the market's ups and downs, consistently riding the crest of the wave. He was akin to a survivor who had amassed immense wealth through trading, almost as if he were a magician in the stock market.

But nothing could have prepared him for the consequences of the deal he had closed long time ago.

It was a brisk autumn day. Aaron ventured into uncharted territory, taking a monumental risk by heavily investing in a promising tech startup. He had a gut feeling that this was the deal of a lifetime, and he bet it all. As he vigilantly monitored the market's movements throughout the day, his intuition proved spot-on. The stock skyrocketed, causing Aaron's portfolio to surge exponentially. It marked a triumph that surpassed even his wildest dreams.

As the closing bell chimed on Wall Street, Aaron exited the trading floor, his heart racing with the adrenaline rush of newfound wealth. Choosing to head home ahead of schedule, he was eager to bask in the glow of his success. His residence was a penthouse apartment with a commanding view of the city, a symbol of his triumphs in the competitive realm of finance.

He was on the verge of flagging down a taxi, when an inner voice reminded him that leaving the bank without expressing gratitude to the one who had provided the tip for the deal that had earned him a fortune that day would be improper...

Aaron looked around, searching for someone who might have spoken to him in that manner, but there was no one there. He was alone. Then the voice said “Don't look around you, I'm speaking from within you. You know who I am, even if you don't want to acknowledge it.”

His phone buzzed with a congratulatory message from one of his bosses.

The voice continued speaking. “In life, everything has a price. You give in exchange for receiving. You and I had an agreement. Do you remember? I've fulfilled my part. Now it's time for you to fulfill yours. Isn't that what we agreed upon?"

Aaron dismissed the cab despite the protests of the taxi driver. Witnesses said the banker began making strange movements, gesticulating as if trying to strike someone. However, he was striking empty air. His face contorted as if he were in agony. He screamed, reportedly saying, “Not now, you damn demon, why won't you give me some time to enjoy what I've earned?”

“I guess you're a bit mistaken, my dear Aaron. You haven't earned anything. I provided you with the tips for you to do it. Now is the time for you to honour your end of the deal.”

When the police arrested him, he still had the murder weapon in his hand. Aaron had just killed a prominent investment fund manager. No one knew the motive for the assassination. No one could explain what had happened for such a successful stock trader to ruin his life like that. Aaron kept insisting that he was innocent, that someone was controlling him, and he couldn't control his actions. “I hear voices”, he said. The psychiatric analysis stated that Aaron was disturbed.

Aaron made headlines for a day, but everyone forgot about him the next day. The city had other concerns, and other news pushed Aaron into obscurity.
